ADA and WCAG compliance, answered
What the free scan checks, what it cannot check, and what actually reduces your legal exposure.
What does the free scan check?
It fetches your page and tests it against WCAG 2.1 AA criteria that can be verified from the markup: missing alt text, unlabelled form fields, empty links and buttons, missing page language, and heading structure. You get the specific elements that failed, not a score.
What can a scan NOT tell you?
No automated tool catches everything. Screen-reader behaviour, keyboard traps inside JavaScript widgets, captions inside video players, and colour contrast set in external stylesheets all need a human to check. Any vendor claiming a scan makes you compliant is overselling.
Do accessibility overlay widgets fix this?
No, and they can make it worse. Sites running overlay widgets have been sued in large numbers, and the FTC fined a major overlay vendor $1M over misleading compliance claims. Elev8 AI fixes the underlying HTML instead, which is the part a plaintiff actually cites.
I received a demand letter. What now?
Run the scan so you know what is actually on the page, then talk to a lawyer. Elev8 AI remediates the source code and documents what changed; it does not give legal advice.
